A wonderful opportunity to peek behind the scenes of an opera performer’s training.

From stage craft to audition practice, from technique to role preparation, State Opera South Australia’s 2024 Masterclass Series offers a wide range of subjects, harnessing the experience and knowledge of some of the best in the business.

Participants in the tuition-free opportunities are selected from State Opera’s pool of young and emerging artists, who receive coaching and mentoring to assist them in reaching their artistic and professional goals.

Soprano Cathy-Di Zhang will focus on vocal technique in opera, and best practice for role preparation.

Well known for annual Christmas performances of Handel’s Messiah and other choral works, Perth Symphonic Chorus presents Bach’s immortal St Matthew Passion for the first time in its nearly 30-year history.

Join your host, international comedy and cabaret star Reuben Kaye, as he throws open the doors to Australia’s most famous cultural icon – the Sydney Opera House – for a late-night celebration for the ages.

One of the hits of 2023’s Sydney WorldPride, Opera Up Late is a wild ride through the world of opera with a decidedly queer lens. With re-imagined opera hits, musical theatre classics and a few pop numbers along the way, this is the perfect chance for newbies to pop their operatic cherries and regulars to reacquaint themselves with a great love.

Award-winning director Shaun Rennie corrals a cast of fabulous singers on the historic Joan Sutherland Theatre stage for a night of big laughs and even bigger voices.

In the twilight of a late summer's day, patrons will have the opportunity to picnic surrounded by century old trees either on what they bring themselves or what they might purchase from the food and beverage providers who will be there on the day.

All audience seats are ticketed as allocated seating.

A paid bus service will run from Meeniyan and Leongatha for those who wish to book it.
